On July 17 back after the forced break of 2020 the most awaited event by Venetians: the Feast of the Redeemer.
A Venetian tradition over 400 years old that returns to enchant Venice with fireworks.
It is one of the events in which the spectacular and religious aspect coexist. A real city festival that recalls the grace received by the city to end the plague and, at the behest of the doge at the time it was asked, a promise was made that every year, on the day the city was declared free from the scourge (July 1577), there would be a procession to the new votive church. This celebration became a tradition still active after almost 5 centuries. On the Saturday preceding the third Sunday in July, a long votive bridge of boats is opened on the Giudecca Canal, connecting the island with Fondamenta delle Zattere, thus allowing pedestrian access to the Redentore Church.
The Feast of the Redeemer 2021 awaits you Saturday 17 and Sunday, July 18 with great events and spectacular fireworks. Get ready to celebrate the most anticipated weekend of the year!
Mark the appointment in your diary and hurry up to book your stay in the lagoon.
Around 23:30 on Saturday 17 you can enjoy about 40 minutes of pure magic, a fireworks display in the Basin of San Marco that enchants the whole world.
The fireworks will illuminate the entire city with cascades of colored lights, reflections in the water and games of shadows and lights that will stand out on the facades of palaces and famous monuments.
