Palazzo Grassi presents the major solo exhibition of Marlene Dumas (South African author) which is part of a program dedicated to great contemporary artists that from 2012 to today alternate with thematic exhibitions of the Pinault Collection.
The exhibition entitled “open-end” was prepared and curated by Caroline Bourgeois in collaboration with Marlene Dumas, who during the period of preparation for the exhibition has stayed at our Corte Di Gabriela, we are sure that, to admire his work, a trip to Venice will be worth it.
The exhibition presents over 100 works, with a selection of paintings and drawings and unpublished works made in recent years, from the Pinault Collection, international museums and private collections. The author is considered one of the most influential artists in the contemporary art scene, she works mainly with oil on canvas and ink on paper. A crucial aspect is the use of images from which she draws inspiration, from newspapers, magazines, film stills or Polaroids taken by her personally, and she is very attached to the photographic medium to create her work.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalog published in co-edition by Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana in collaboration with Marsilio Editori, Venice.
